Elysium Health unveils vision for eye health and longevity

Supporting visual performance and protection, Vision combines advanced research with clinically proven ingredients for all ages.

Elysium Health has increased its supplement line with the launch of Vision, a product designed for eye longevity, performance and protection.

Designed with guidance from Dr Theodore Leng, a leading ophthalmologist at Stanford University, Vision has been formulated to support visual performance and address multiple aspects of visual health across different life stages.

Longevity.Technology: In an increasingly crowded market for health supplements – especially those targeting the aging process – companies are beginning to offer formulations that target distinct areas such as skin, immunity and now eye health. Given the rapid pace of innovation within the supplement industry, it is encouraging to see Elysium opting to increase their offering with a novel, science-backed angle. As more supplements emerge, those targeting specific health concerns should be scrutinized not just for ingredient lists but also for their grounding in clinical research. While customer scrutiny is key, it is also good to see the industry discussing the need for self-regulation and standards.

Elysium Health’s latest supplement combines a specific set of carotenoids that aim to deliver benefits beyond conventional options. The product’s foundation lies in the Protective Intervention for Xanthin-based Eye Longevity (PIXEL) Complex, which incorporates the three primary macular carotenoids (lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin) with the additional support of astaxanthin. According to Leng, this formulation “leverages 20 years of data behind the AREDS studies and the latest breakthroughs in xanthophyll research,” distinguishing it from other formulations on the market. The PIXEL Complex is intended to counteract the daily assault on the eyes from high-energy blue light, oxidative stress and intrinsic metabolic activities – all of which contribute to cellular damage and visual decline.

The role of xanthophylls, naturally occurring plant pigments, is well-documented in terms of ocular health. They are known for accumulating in the eye and delivering powerful antioxidant effects. Vision’s formula focuses on increasing macular pigment density, a factor critical for eye health over the long term. Notably, the AREDS 2 formula – an established regimen recommended for macular support – contains only two of these macular carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin, resulting in only a modest increase in macular pigment density. In contrast, Vision is formulated with all three macular carotenoids, which Elysium Health claims provides a more rapid and substantial improvement in macular pigment density. The inclusion of meso-zeaxanthin, alongside the other carotenoids, is clinically supported for its impact on filtering high-energy blue light and enhancing visual contrast sensitivity, even in younger individuals who may not yet show signs of macular degeneration.

Astaxanthin, the fourth carotenoid in Vision’s formula, has been shown to support blood flow to the retina, a function particularly valuable in today’s world of prolonged screen exposure. This antioxidant not only aids in nutrient and oxygen delivery to the retina but also supports eye endurance and visual performance over extended periods. As such, it is increasingly relevant for those whose work or lifestyle necessitates prolonged focus on digital screens – a concern shared by both younger and older generations alike.

“In the early stages of developing Vision, I, like many people, believed eye health centered around older ages and loss of eyesight,” said Elysium Health CEO Eric Marcotulli. “And while maintaining eye health and visual performance is certainly a concern as we get older, I learned that people at any age can benefit from improved contrast sensitivity and the filtering of high-energy blue light, which bombards our eyes every day.”

Elysium says the formulation’s benefits extend to a wide range of daily tasks, from reducing glare and improving contrast sensitivity to supporting clearer vision during fine-detail tasks. The company hopes Vision’s effects may be especially pronounced in environments with high visual demands, including sports such as golf, tennis, and various water activities. The broader aim of Vision is to address age-related eye concerns while offering benefits that enhance visual performance across all stages of life.

Vision represents an offering in the supplement space that aims not only to mitigate the decline in visual health associated with aging but also to enhance performance under the continual strain of modern environmental factors. Although marketed primarily towards those at risk of macular degeneration, Vision also supports individuals of all ages, suggesting a wider application beyond age-related eye concerns. This is consistent with Elysium Health’s emphasis on longevity and overall health, aligning with the company’s existing suite of products that aim to promote wellness across the lifespan.
