Creyos ramps up accessibility of technology platform that aims to transform how brain health is measured.
Brain health measurement firm Creyos has introduced significant updates to its cognitive and behavioral health assessment platform to foster greater accessibility and support for patients, regardless of their socioeconomic background or cognitive ability. Formerly known as Cambridge Brain Sciences, the company offers a variety of digital tools, such as objective tasks and condition-specific protocols, to assist healthcare providers in early intervention and ongoing care management for a range of cognitive and behavioral conditions.
With research showing that older adults in underserved communities are 18% less likely to receive timely diagnoses for conditions like Alzheimer’s disease compared with those in more affluent areas, Creyos’s new updates are intended to meet the demand for more inclusive healthtech solutions. By implementing multilingual audio guidance, simplified instructions and a streamlined interface, the company aims to address challenges faced by historically underserved communities, including older adults and patients from low literacy backgrounds, who often encounter barriers to traditional assessments.
Professor Adrian Owen, Chief Scientific Officer at Creyos, emphasized that equitable health care depends not only on access but also on patient understanding of the assessment process.
“This is particularly crucial in conditions where early and precise detection can make all the difference – like dementia,” he said. “When patients fully understand what’s expected of them, we achieve more accurate, reliable results, which are vital for effective diagnosis and treatment. It’s not just about providing access; it’s about equipping providers with the right tools to drive better clinical decision making and patient outcomes.”
The Creyos platform guides patients through simplified onboarding steps with instructions adapted to low literacy levels, along with tutorials that incorporate visual, audio and tactile elements to accommodate a range of learning styles. The platform’s design adjustments also improve usability for individuals with specific needs, including contrast enhancements for colorblind users, larger text options, multilingual support and an overall less visually demanding interface suited for patients with brain injuries or limited technical experience. These modifications uphold the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), ensuring a user-friendly experience without compromising the scientific validity of the assessments.
Marc Lipton, Creyos’s President and CEO, stressed the societal cost of underdiagnosed cognitive health issues.
“The updates we’ve made to the patient experience are designed to ensure that no one who needs screening, diagnostic support, assessment, or ongoing monitoring slips through the cracks,” he said. “This isn’t just about helping individual patients; it’s about elevating our collective understanding of cognitive impairment. More accurate, objective data leads to better-informed physician interventions, both now and in the future.”
The platform’s updates also extend to the structural design of tasks and questionnaires, which have been refined for clarity and ease. Tasks maintain their original integrity to ensure consistent scientific outcomes, while enhanced accessibility features include larger fonts, improved contrast and simplified navigation free of unnecessary visual distractions. Questionnaires have been redesigned, offering a more concise and readable format with scrollable views and context-sensitive information through pop-up modals for additional clarity. These adjustments all aim to facilitate quicker, clearer assessments, enabling providers to more efficiently screen, diagnose and monitor cognitive and behavioral health.
