Oura and Dexcom to combine glucose sensing and wearable health tracking

Metabolic health companies join forces as CGM giant pours $75m into smart ring leader, at a valuation of more than $5bn.

Glucose monitoring company Dexcom and health tracking wearables firm Oura have announced a strategic partnership that aims to provide an integrated metabolic health management solution for consumers. A leader in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology, Dexcom also revealed it has made a $75 million investment into Oura, valuing the Finnish company at more than $5 billion.

By enabling two-way data flow between Dexcom’s glucose biosensors and Oura’s smart ring technology, the partners intend to enable a more holistic understanding of metabolic health. The unified platform aims to gain insights into the interplay between glucose levels and various health factors, including sleep, stress, heart health and activity. The integration is expected to launch its first app-based feature by mid-2025.

Earlier this year, Oura revealed it had sold 2.5 million smart ring units and was profitable, expecting its annual sales to double this year to around $500 million. The collaboration follows the recent launch of the Oura Ring 4, featuring enhanced sensors for activity, sleep and heart health tracking. Oura’s CEO, Tom Hale, cited interest among Oura members in understanding how dietary choices impact health.

“Ninety-seven percent of Oura Members have expressed interest in understanding how the food they eat impacts their health,” he said. “Working together, Oura and Dexcom will help members decide what and when to eat by surfacing correlations between activities like sleep and exercise and members’ glucose levels. And because we know that people are affected differently by the same foods and activities, guidance and insights will be personalized.”

Dexcom says its products, including the Stelo non-prescription glucose biosensor, are used by more than 2.5 million people globally. Executive vice president Matt Dolan highlighted the opportunity to redefine metabolic health.

“Partnering with Oura gives us the opportunity to redefine the category again, integrating data from Dexcom glucose biosensors with the continuous insights and metrics measured by Oura Ring,” he said. “This powerful combination will attract new shared customers who want to better understand the link between activity, sleep, nutrition and their glucose.”
