Sleep tech firm is harnessing advanced sensors and AI to turn your bed into a preventive health device.
US sleep technology company Eight Sleep has raised $100 million in new funding to accelerate its push beyond consumer tech into preventive health and medical applications. The company, which develops the Pod smart mattress system, is positioning the bed as a hub for health monitoring and AI-driven interventions.
Along with diet and exercise, sleep is one of the key lifestyle factors that impact significantly on human longevity and healthspan, and it appears Eight Sleep sees its technology playing a role in both the wellness and clinical markets. The company, which boasts the likes of Andrew Huberman and Peter Attia on its Scientific Advisory Board, is committed to integrating cutting-edge scientific research into its product development, and revealed the new funding will support an explicit move into health applications, initially targeting conditions like menopausal sleep disturbances and sleep apnea.

“Eight Sleep has developed a turn-key solution for sleep and health optimization: hardware, software, AI, and consumer goods that dynamically adjust around each person’s needs,” said Eight Sleep CEO Matteo Franceschetti. “This new funding enables us to accelerate the deployment of AI for sleep optimization, expand into medical applications like menopausal sleep and sleep apnea, and bring our technology to millions of people around the world.”
Earlier this year, Eight Sleep introduced its Health Check feature, which uses machine learning trained on more than one million hours of sleep data to detect cardiovascular and respiratory irregularities with near-clinical accuracy. The Pod’s embedded sensors continuously monitor heart rate, heart rate variability, and breathing patterns from within the mattress cover, identifying deviations from a user’s personal baseline and surfacing potential concerns. The system also notifies users when multiple metrics fall outside their normal range, effectively turning nightly sleep into a window for early detection of underlying health issues.
The new funding will also be used to develop what Eight Sleep calls the world’s first AI Sleep Agent – a system designed to interpret biometric data, simulate digital twins for each user, and proactively adjust environmental factors such as temperature and bed elevation. The agent is intended to anticipate and prevent disruptions by running simulations in real time and intervening before issues emerge.

“We’re creating digital twins of your sleep physiology to simulate, test, and personalize your recovery before you even close your eyes,” said Franceschetti. “This is the next frontier: AI that doesn’t just track you, it understands and adapts to you in real time.”
The new funding round included investments from HSG, Valor Equity Partners, Atreides, Founders Fund, Y Combinator and leading figures from the world of motorsports, including Ferrari F1 driver Charles Leclerc and the CEO of McLaren F1, Zak Brown. According to Eight Sleep, the company has already logged more than one billion hours of sleep data and surpassed $500 million in sales since launching the Pod. The company plans to use the new funding to grow its international footprint, including entry into China, while investing in consumer-facing wellness tools and clinically oriented medical applications.
