WVU RNI and Cognito Therapeutics launch brain health “collaboratory” – Longevity.Technology


West Virginia University’s Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (RNI) and Cognito Therapeutics have established the first “Brain Health Collaboratory,” an initiative designed to accelerate the development, validation and real‑world deployment of non‑invasive neurotherapies. At its core is Cognito’s Spectris™, a sensory-driven, at-home neurostimulation device showing early potential in maintaining brain structure and function in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.

The collaboratory integrates patient care, AI-powered research and continuous data capture in a single learning-healthcare ecosystem. Spectris therapy will be built into RNI’s clinical workflows, enabling real-time treatment delivery, data collection and model-driven learning. The program also supports preclinical and clinical studies, health economics and outcomes research, and commercialization planning.

RNI, which already has a strong translational‑research infrastructure, will leverage its multidisciplinary operations to drive rapid innovation. Cognito and RNI envision this center as the first among a planned national network of Brain Health Collaboratories with other academic medical centers.

According to Cognito, the initiative shifts how neurodegenerative disease and brain injury therapies are tested: rather than relying on episodic clinical trials, it aims to build scalable, adaptive, real-world evidence systems. The partners argue that this new model could accelerate access to neuroprotective interventions, improve yield from neurotherapy development, and ultimately expand how brain disorders are treated.
